A compact exercise bike trades console features and flywheel weight for a smaller footprint. Some fold, some use friction pads instead of magnets, and the listed footprint is not always consistent with the photos. Resistance type, seat range and what the console shows matter more than the headline number of resistance levels.

The six bikes below range from a plain 8-level magnetic upright to app-connected friction bikes and foldable models. Sizes and features come from each product’s listing page. We have not used these bikes ourselves. Noise and capacity figures are the makers’ own, and several listings contradict themselves, which we point out.

What to Look For

Feature Why it matters
Footprint Check length and width, and whether the bike folds
Resistance Magnetic and friction systems differ in how they are adjusted
Seat range Look for a stated height range, not just “adjustable”
Console Some show only time and speed; others connect to an app

The 6 Best Compact Exercise Bikes

1. Marcy ME-708 Upright Exercise Bike

A 41 pound upright bike with a 14-gauge steel tube frame, magnetic resistance with 8 levels, an adjustable seat, counterbalanced pedals and transport wheels. The LCD console shows time, speed, distance and calories. The listing gives a 2 year limited warranty and a maximum user weight of 242.5 pounds. The size reads 17.5 by 35 by 47.5 inches.

Suits: a plain magnetic upright. Strengths: a stated warranty and wheels. Weaknesses: only 8 levels. Skip it if you want an app.

2. YOSUDA Exercise Bike 002

A friction bike with a belt drive, a 25 pound flywheel, 100 resistance levels and app connectivity, weighing 27 kg. The listing mentions a two-way adjustable handlebar and a 300 pound maximum user weight. The title says magnetic friction while the detail table says friction, and the listed width of 7.47 inches looks wrong for a full bike.

Suits: a belt-drive bike with an app. Strengths: a heavy flywheel by the maker’s figure. Weaknesses: conflicting resistance and size entries. Skip it if you want magnets.

3. MERACH Magnetic Friction Exercise Bike

A 27 kg bike, 40 by 22 by 45 inches, with belt drive, 100 resistance levels, an LED monitor and a Bluetooth app that the maker says works with Kinomap and Zwift. The maker claims noise below 25 dB, which we cannot verify and which looks very low. The title says magnetic friction while the resistance field says friction, and the model name (MR-S26B1) differs from the model number (MR-S38).

Suits: a connected friction bike. Strengths: an app and 100 levels. Weaknesses: inconsistent model details. Skip it if you want a clean spec sheet.

4. ATIVAFIT 5-in-1 Foldable Exercise Bike

A 34 pound foldable bike that works as an upright or a recumbent, with magnetic resistance, resistance bands, a monitor for distance, speed, time and heart rate, and a phone holder. The title says 16 levels but the detail table says 8, and the listed maximum is 120 kg while the text says 265 pounds. The 34 by 10 by 15 inch size looks like a folded figure.

Suits: a folding bike that also reclines. Strengths: a fold-away design. Weaknesses: conflicting level counts. Skip it if you want consistent numbers.

5. LINBOLUSA Foldable Exercise Bike

A 32 pound foldable magnetic bike, 35 by 20 by 45 inches, with 16 resistance levels, a 5.5 pound flywheel, a 260 pound listed maximum user weight and a maker claim of noise below 20 dB, a figure we cannot verify and that looks very low. The maker says it is about 70 percent pre-assembled. A Minimum Height field reads 30 inches without a clear meaning.

Suits: a small apartment bike that folds. Strengths: low weight and folding. Weaknesses: a light flywheel and an unclear height entry. Skip it if you want a heavy flywheel.

6. Superun S1-Pro Exercise Bike

A 43.1 pound bike, 40.55 by 19.29 by 44.09 inches, with 32 magnetic levels, a 4-way adjustable seat, 2-way handlebars, an LCD for time, speed, distance, calories and RPM, transport wheels and a 300 pound listed maximum user weight. The maker describes it as fitting heights from 4.6 to 6.1 feet. A Minimum Height field of 14 centimeters conflicts with that range.

Suits: a household bike with a stated height range. Strengths: a stated seat range and 32 levels. Weaknesses: a conflicting height entry. Skip it if you need a folding bike.

Specs to Check Before Ordering

  • Floor footprint, open and folded.
  • Resistance type and the number of levels in the detail table.
  • The seat and handlebar adjustment range the listing states.
  • Console features and whether an app is required.
  • Listed maximum user weight.
  • Assembly notes and the warranty.
  • The maker’s instructions for setup.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Trusting a resistance level count that the detail table contradicts.
  • Reading a folded size as the in-use footprint.
  • Choosing by noise claims alone.
  • Skipping the seat range when different people will use the bike.

Compact Exercise Bike FAQ

Magnetic or friction resistance?

Both appear here. The Marcy, ATIVAFIT, LINBOLUSA and Superun are listed as magnetic, while the YOSUDA and MERACH are listed as friction.

Do these need power?

Listings give mixed answers: some say battery powered, one says corded electric and one says manual. Check the power entry on the page.

The Short Version
